Lightwell grates
Lightwell grates
At VELAMP, we have great respect for Danish craftsmanship and iron casting. When the task of casting new glass grates or also called lightwell grates was presented to us, we did a major research task to find the right way to make a modern, but classic solution.
We chose to keep most of the design of our glass gratings, so they look as they were cast by Frederiksberg Iron Foundry in the late 1800s. Frederiksberg Iron Foundry made a quality product, where the idea was that urban furniture such as gratings would last for many years. Cast iron glass lightwell grates were therefore a popular and durable product, which could allow lightwells for basement shafts to be tight, but still ensure light for basements.
This is also one of the reasons why we have chosen to continue the production of iron cast glass grates, as the different steel grates will be able to sit for many years into the future.
