We chose to keep most of the design of our glass grates, so they look as they were cast by Frederiksberg Iron Foundry in the late 1800s. Frederiksberg Iron Foundry made a quality product, where the idea was that urban furniture such as grates would last for many years. Cast iron glass grates were therefore a popular and durable product, which could allow lightwells for basement shafts to be tight, but still ensure light for basements.
This is also one of the reasons why we have chosen to continue the production of iron cast glass grates, as the different steel grates will be able to sit for many years into the future.
Durability of modern lightwell grates
Our modern version of the original from Frederiksberg Iron Foundry from 1872 is now made of ductile cast iron, which has a strength of at least twice that of the original lightwell grates. This was despite the fact that the original lightwells were already almost indestructible. Thus, you can now re-establish or replace the original lightwell grates and expect an extended service life according to the original lightwell grates.

We have several different sizes and models of glass grates as standard
Right now, we offer the standard sizes:
- 130x42cm (3 x 10 panels)
- 130x52cm (4 x 10 panels)
- 130x61cm (5 x 10 panels)
- 130x70cm (6 x 10 panels)
- 130x80cm (7 x 10 panels)
- 130x89cm (8 x 10 panels)
But other sizes can be requested and our range is continuously expanded.
